The SANDVIK COROMANT 5743968 is a single-sided, square-shaped solid carbide milling insert engineered for use in R245 series face and shoulder milling cutters. Manufactured to grade 4220, it features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that delivers thermal resistance and wear performance across a range of demanding cutting applications. The insert measures 18.00 mm inscribed circle diameter with a 6.10 mm thickness and a 1.00 mm corner radius. It carries a positive rake angle of 10 degrees with a corner-rounded cutting edge style and the PM chip breaker geometry. Four cutting edges per insert maximize tool economy. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamp method and is designed for right-hand cutting orientation.
This insert is suited for milling steel, cast iron, and hard materials in both roughing and finishing operations where CVD-coated carbide grades are indicated. The PM chip breaker geometry supports stable chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut up to 9.75 mm. It fits R245 series cutter bodies and is appropriate for machine shops, metalworking facilities, and maintenance operations where consistent insert geometry and ISO- and ANSI-standardized dimensions are required for tooling repeatability.
Designed for use with R245 series milling cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code R245-18 T6 M-PM 4220 identifies the toolholder interface. Compatible with primary workpiece materials designated P (Steel), K (Cast Iron), and H (Hard Material).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the milling cutter body is fully secured and the machine spindle is locked or powered down before seating or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer for the screw-clamp holding method. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper insert contact and prevent premature edge failure.
