The SANDVIK COROMANT 5742760 is a solid carbide milling insert in grade 235, designed for use in indexable end mill and milling cutter bodies that accept the R215.44 insert series. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a right-hand cutting orientation and two usable cutting edges. A CVD-applied dual coating of TiCN and TiN provides wear resistance and thermal stability during metal removal operations. The insert size code is 15T308, with an inscribed circle of 0.3740 inches and a thickness of 0.1563 inches (3.96 mm). It is held in the pocket by a screw-clamp method and carries a positive rake geometry for reduced cutting forces.
This insert is intended for milling steel and stainless steel workpieces in both roughing and finishing applications. The WL chip breaker geometry is suited for controlled chip formation in these material groups, corresponding to ISO material classification P and M. Typical installation scenarios include production milling on CNC machining centers where consistent edge geometry and predictable tool life are required. The insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units per order.
Designed for use in R215.44 series milling cutter bodies that accept insert size code 15T308. ANSI and ISO designation R215.44-15T308M-WL 235 confirms fitment in tooling systems conforming to those standards.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw specified by the cutter body manufacturer. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or contamination before seating the new insert. Follow the cutter body manufacturer's clamping torque specification, as over- or under-torquing the screw can cause insert movement or breakage during the cut.
