The SANDVIK COROMANT 5742742 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in R210 series face and shoulder milling cutters. It carries the 4220 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, providing wear resistance and thermal protection during demanding cutting operations. The insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a positive 10-degree rake angle, and a corner radius of 1.40 mm (0.0551 inches). It holds to ISO and ANSI code R210-09 04 14E-PM 4220 and is intended for professional machining applications requiring consistent edge geometry and reliable chip control. Machinists and tooling specialists are the primary installers and users.
This insert is suited for milling steel and cast iron workpieces in both roughing and finishing passes where controlled depth of cut is needed. The PM chip breaker geometry supports stable chip evacuation across these material groups. With a maximum depth of cut of 1.00 mm (0.0472 inches), this insert is best applied in light-to-moderate passes where edge integrity and surface finish consistency are priorities. It fits standard R210 series toolholders and is a direct replacement insert for worn or depleted positions in those cutter bodies.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT R210 series milling cutter bodies. The insert size code is 090414 and the cutter series compatibility is R210. Verify cutter body seat condition and insert size code before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following standard insert indexing procedures. Always power down and lock out the spindle before handling inserts or toolholders. Use a torx or hex key appropriate for the insert clamping screw per the cutter body manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutter body pocket and seating surfaces for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper edge geometry and runout.
