The SANDVIK COROMANT 5742572 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for precision material removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 12 mm cutting diameter with a 1.50 mm corner radius, providing a controlled edge geometry that reduces stress concentration at the corner and extends tool life in high-feed applications. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 50-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. A PVD-applied multilayer TiAlN coating delivers thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting temperatures. This tool is intended for use by machinists and CNC programmers working in production and job-shop environments.
The 5742572 is suited for roughing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Its single-end design and straight-cylindrical shank interface directly with standard toolholders, making it a practical choice for vertical machining centers and horizontal mills running tight-tolerance profiling or slotting passes. The short 0.80 mm length of cut and long overall reach of 83 mm support applications where extended reach into a pocket or feature is required without sacrificing rigidity at the shank.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 12 mm shank diameter. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (superalloys and titanium) per ISO material classification. Part of the Sandvik Coromant R215 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle is locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended gauge length and torque the clamping screws per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts, as excessive runout will accelerate corner radius wear and degrade surface finish.
