The SANDVIK COROMANT 5742399 is a solid carbide cutoff insert in the T-Max Q-Cut series, designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the R151.2 insert style with a 5 mm cutting width (0.1969 inches) and a 5-degree right-hand lead angle. The CVD-applied TiCN/TiN coating provides wear resistance and heat management during high-speed parting cuts. Clamp-style holding keeps the insert seated under the lateral forces common in cutoff work. This insert is sized and graded for productive use in steel and similar workpiece materials requiring a reliable, consistent edge geometry.
This insert is used in parting, grooving, and cutoff applications on conventional and CNC turning equipment. The 4E chipbreaker geometry is suited for controlled chip formation in medium to finish-depth parting cuts. A 7-degree relief angle and 0.30 mm corner radius (0.0118 inches) provide clearance and edge definition appropriate for tight-tolerance cutoff work. Right-hand orientation means the insert is positioned for standard right-hand tool holders. Installation and tooling selection should follow the T-Max Q-Cut system requirements. This insert is a single-piece item sold in a minimum order quantity of 10 units per order.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max Q-Cut system toolholders and blade bodies that accept the R151.2 insert style with insert seat size 50. Confirm tool holder compatibility with the R151.2-500 05-4E 235 geometry before installation.
Cutoff insert replacement is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before accessing the tool holder or blade body. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the T-Max Q-Cut system documentation — do not over-tighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or damage each time an insert is changed.
