The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740953 is an indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder in the T-Max Q-Cut series, designed for external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This right-hand holder accommodates N151.2-250-5E inserts secured by a clamp-style insert holding method. It handles groove widths from 2.39 to 3.18 millimeters and a maximum depth of cut of 20.07 millimeters. The 3/4 x 3/4 inch shank profile fits standard rectangular tool pockets on gang-style and turret-style tooling systems. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users of this toolholder.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving and cutoff applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in both production turning and job-shop operations. The RF151.23 toolholder style positions the cutting edge for precise groove width control in tight-tolerance applications. With an overall length of 127 millimeters and a shank length of 87 millimeters, it fits standard 3/4 inch square tool stations on most CNC turning centers. Coolant-through capability is not available on this holder, so flood or mist coolant delivery through the machine turret is the standard approach.
Designed for use with N151.2-250-5E inserts in the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max Q-Cut system. The RF151.23-12-25 toolholder style is part of the broader T-Max Q-Cut grooving platform for external applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out, tagged-out state per facility LOTO procedures. Seat the shank fully into the tool pocket and clamp to the machine manufacturer's recommended torque spec for the turret station. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the N151.2-250-5E insert. Verify tool offset and groove width dimensions with a trial cut on a test piece before running production.
