The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740567 is a solid carbide round milling insert in the RCKT series, designed for use in rotating milling applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. This insert carries grade 2040, a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCrN, Al2O3, and TiN engineered for thermal resistance and wear performance at elevated cutting parameters. The insert measures 0.5000 inches in inscribed circle diameter and 0.1875 inches thick, with a 0.2500-inch corner radius and 8 available cutting edges per insert. A positive rake geometry and the MM chip breaker designation support controlled chip formation across a range of material grades including P45, M40, and S30. Neutral hand orientation allows flexible fixture in compatible cutter bodies.
This insert is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and copy milling operations on CNC machining centers in both production shop and job shop environments. Primary workpiece materials include carbon and alloy steels, austenitic and duplex stainless steels, and difficult-to-cut superalloys and titanium alloys. The RCKT round insert geometry distributes cutting forces evenly around the full 360-degree included angle, which reduces vibration tendency and extends edge life in interrupted cuts and unstable setups. Screw-type holding secures the insert in the pocket without additional clamps.
Compatible with SANDVIK COROMANT cutter series N331.32, R331.32, and RA200. ANSI and ISO code: RCKT 13 04 00-MM 2040.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the tool is secured in a vise or tool holder before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver for the insert screw and tighten to the cutter body manufacturer's specified torque found in the cutter body documentation. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
