The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740223 is an indexable ball nose end mill from the CoroMill 216 series, designed for high-precision contouring, profiling, and 3D milling in steel and similar materials. Built with a Weldon flat shank for secure tool holding, it accepts RA216-2504 inserts secured by screw clamping. The tool offers a 1-inch cutting diameter and supports through-coolant delivery to extend insert life and improve chip evacuation in demanding cutting conditions. With a 2-flute configuration and a maximum RPM rating of 24000, it is suited for both roughing and finishing passes on CNC machining centers. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users of this toolholder.
The 5740223 is appropriate for milling operations on steel workpieces in vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers. Its Weldon flat shank fits standard collet or side-lock toolholders, making it compatible with a wide range of spindle configurations. The through-coolant feature makes it particularly effective in deep-pocket and die-mold work where heat and chip buildup are common concerns. The CoroMill 216 series is engineered for consistent indexable insert performance, reducing tool change time compared to solid carbide alternatives. This tool is a common choice in shops running medium-to-high volume steel component machining.
Designed for use with RA216-2504 ball nose inserts. Toolholder style is RA216..Mxx as specified in the CoroMill 216 series. Insert retention is by screw clamping. Weldon flat shank fits standard side-lock and set-screw style toolholders. No additional compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the CNC program is in a safe state before changing tooling. Torque the Weldon flat set screw to the machine manufacturer specification for the shank diameter in use. Verify through-coolant port alignment with the machine spindle coolant supply before running the tool at elevated RPM.
