The SANDVIK COROMANT 5740069 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the RCGX1204M0AL H10 designation, part of the CoroTurn 107 series. It features a round (R) insert shape with a 1/2 inch (0.4724 inch decimal) inscribed circle and a 3/16 inch thickness. The H10 grade is engineered for aluminum and non-ferrous materials, offering high wear resistance along with moderate toughness. With four cutting edges and a positive side clearance geometry, this insert is suited for roughing and medium machining operations. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC operators using a screw-holding method. The AL chip breaker geometry supports efficient chip evacuation in non-ferrous and superalloy applications.
This insert is designed for turning operations on non-ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material, with secondary applicability to superalloys and titanium. It fits CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept RCGX-style round inserts with a screw-mount interface. Typical applications include external turning and profiling on CNC lathes in production environments where surface finish and tool life on aluminum or titanium components are priorities. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with a wide range of CoroTurn 107 toolholder configurations without handedness restrictions.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting RCGX1204M0-style round inserts with a screw-mount interface. Primary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal (ISO material code N); secondary workpiece materials include superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S).
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not over-drive the screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new edge. Index or replace all cutting edges before returning the tool to service to maintain consistent dimensional accuracy.
