The SANDVIK COROMANT 5739979 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. With a 0.5 inch mill diameter, a 1/32 inch (0.0313 inch) corner radius, and a TiAlN multilayer PVD coating, this tool delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance when cutting ferrous and exotic alloys. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a high helix angle supports both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry. The straight-cylindrical shank is held to h6 tolerance for precise toolholder seating, and the mill diameter is held to h9 tolerance. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in production shop environments.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium in vertical and horizontal machining centers. The extra-long configuration, with a 1.25 inch length of cut and 4 inch overall length, accommodates deeper cavity work and shoulder milling where standard-length tools fall short. It is a single-end tool from the SANDVIK COROMANT RA216 series and is paired with compatible toolholders. Primary workpiece material codes include P, M, K, and S classifications, covering a broad range of ISO material groups common in aerospace, die-mold, and general precision machining.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder to the minimum clamping depth recommended for the holder style in use. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts, as excessive runout accelerates corner radius wear and degrades surface finish.
