The SANDVIK COROMANT 5738229 is a PCLNL-style indexable turning toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It uses a clamp holding method to secure CNMG-series inserts at a negative rake angle, providing stable cutting forces and predictable tool life in steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. The shank measures 20 millimeters wide by 20 millimeters tall, fitting standard square-shank toolpost and quick-change systems. Overall length is 4.9213 inches (125 millimeters). This toolholder is part of the Sandvik Coromant T-Max P series, a platform built for high-productivity turning in production environments. Installation and setup are performed by qualified machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This toolholder is suited for external longitudinal and facing operations in both roughing and finishing passes. The left-hand cutting orientation positions it for specific approach directions on conventional and CNC turning machines. The PCLNL configuration, combined with the CNMG insert geometry, supports versatile material removal across a range of depth-of-cut and feed-rate conditions. It is appropriate for job shop and production floor environments where insert indexability and repeatability are required.
Compatible with CNMG 12 04 08 and CNMG 432 indexable inserts. Designed as a PCLNL-style OEM-format toolholder for CNC lathes and turning centers accepting a 20 millimeter by 20 millimeter square-shank toolholder.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or toolpost is locked out before mounting or removing the toolholder. Verify that the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's torque specifications for clamping screws and turret retention hardware.
