The SANDVIK COROMANT 5736980 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This neutral-hand insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends tool life in demanding cutting applications. It belongs to the T-Max Q-Cut series, which is engineered for stable, controlled grooving across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a maximum depth of cut of 0.0949 inches and a corner radius of 0.1094 inches. Grade 1005 solid carbide construction delivers consistent edge integrity and thermal resistance. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production turning environments rely on this insert for repeatable groove geometry and surface finish quality.
This insert is suited for grooving and cutoff operations on lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. It is appropriate for use on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a neutral cutting approach is required. The T-Max Q-Cut series is a recognized platform in indexable turning tooling, and the 5736980 fits that system as a direct indexable insert. Applications include external grooving, recessing, and light parting where depth of cut falls within the 0.0750 to 0.1000 inch range.
Designed for use with T-Max Q-Cut series grooving toolholders that accept the N151.2-A..-4P50 insert style in size 50. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping configuration before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a fully powered-down and locked-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Never attempt to index or replace inserts while the spindle is in motion or under power.
