The SANDVIK COROMANT 5736850 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the N151.2 insert style, it features a 3.00 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 1.40 mm, and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The grade 1125 carbide substrate combined with TiAlN finish provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for standard radial grooving setups. This insert is part of the T-Max Q-Cut series and is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop turning environments.
This insert is used in radial grooving, profiling, and parting applications on lathes and turning centers. The 5T chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation in shallow groove passes up to 2.00 mm deep. The positive rake and 0.40 mm corner radius make it well-suited for finishing passes and grooving in materials where chip control and surface finish are critical. It fits insert seat size 30 and is compatible with T-Max Q-Cut toolholders designed for the N151.2 insert style. Typical applications include groove and part-off operations in light-to-medium machining conditions.
Designed for use with T-Max Q-Cut series toolholders that accept N151.2 style inserts with insert seat size 30. ISO code N151.2-3004-30-5T 1125 identifies the exact insert geometry and grade for toolholder matching.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before installation, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cuts. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw.
