The SANDVIK COROMANT 5736673 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It belongs to the CoroCut 1-2 series and features a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating that supports extended tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.866 inch (22 mm). A positive rake geometry and RO chip breaker design promote controlled chip evacuation during interrupted and continuous grooving cuts. This insert is handled and installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job shop environments.
This insert is suited for external grooving, face grooving, and parting applications on lathes running ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The CoroCut 1-2 series is a widely used platform in production turning, and this J2 insert size fits the corresponding CoroCut 1-2 toolholders designed for that seat size. The RO chip breaker is optimized for general-purpose grooving where reliable chip control is required. It is appropriate for both light finishing passes and medium-duty grooving work within the supported depth-of-cut range of 0.30 inch to 1.00 inch (20 mm and above).
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroCut 1-2 series toolholders accepting a J insert seat size. ISO code N123J2-0635-RO 1005 can be used to confirm holder and insert compatibility.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the recommended torx or insert-clamping key specified for the CoroCut 1-2 toolholder being used, and ensure the insert seat is clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the toolholder or insert rated depth-of-cut limits during operation.
