The SANDVIK COROMANT 5734182 is a DNMG431-MF indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous or light interrupted cuts. At 0.5946 inches in length with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert suits finishing and medium-duty turning applications. It is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is optimized for turning stainless steel (ISO material code M), where edge toughness and coating adhesion are critical to tool life. The MF chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing passes, producing controlled chip formation at moderate depths of cut and feed rates. The neutral hand orientation and four available cutting edges per insert make it compatible with a range of DNMG-style toolholders used on both manual and CNC turning machines. The 55-degree diamond insert shape and clearance code N (0-degree relief angle) are standard for DNMG toolholder pockets.
Designed for use in standard DNMG-style turning toolholders with clamp and pin holding method. ISO code DNMG 15 04 04-MF 2015 can be used for direct toolholder pocket and catalog cross-reference. No specific machine or toolholder model compatibility was provided in the product data.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool-room technicians following standard indexable insert seating procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamp seat are clean and free of chips before seating the insert to prevent insert rocking or premature edge failure. Confirm clamp and pin are properly engaged before resuming cuts.
