The SANDVIK COROMANT 5734048 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It belongs to the CoroCut 1-2 series and carries grade 1115 with a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 PVD coating for wear resistance in demanding turning applications. The insert delivers a 3 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 5 mm, and a cutting height of 4.35 mm. The left-hand orientation and neutral rake geometry make it suited for standard right-to-left grooving passes. Machinists and CNC operators working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials will find this insert a direct fit for CoroCut 1-2 compatible toolholders.
This insert is intended for use in production turning environments where consistent groove width and depth control are critical. Typical applications include grooving for snap rings, O-ring seats, and parting operations on bar stock or chucked workpieces. The GS chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation during grooving. The 90-degree lead angle and 7-degree rake angle support stable entry and reduce lateral forces during the cut. This insert is appropriate for job shops and high-volume production facilities running CNC turning equipment.
Designed for use with CoroCut 1-2 series toolholders accepting HX insert seat size. ISO code LG123H1-0300-0002-GS1115 can be used to confirm toolholder pairing. Verify seat size and clamping system compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamping key specified for the CoroCut 1-2 toolholder to seat the insert securely without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
