The SANDVIK COROMANT 5732160 is a DNMG431-QM 1115 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations. Featuring a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCr2O3 dual-layer coating, this insert delivers heat resistance and wear performance suited to demanding cutting environments. The diamond-shaped insert body carries a 55-degree included angle, a 0.5946-inch cutting edge length, and a 0.0156-inch (1/64 inch) corner radius. With four available cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it is a practical, cost-effective choice for CNC lathe operators running production or job-shop turning programs.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel, with secondary application suitability for superalloys and titanium. The QM chip breaker geometry is optimized for semi-finish to medium-depth cuts where chip control on tough, work-hardening materials is critical. It is used in T-Max P toolholders and is appropriate for horizontal and vertical CNC turning centers in both ISO and ANSI tooling setups. Machinists in aerospace, medical device, and industrial manufacturing commonly specify this grade and geometry when processing austenitic stainless and nickel-based superalloy components.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders accepting DNMG 15 04 04 style inserts (ISO code DNMG 15 04 04-QM 1115). Suitable for clamp-and-pin style insert seats with a 0.2030-inch hole diameter.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the turret in a safe, locked position. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to loosen the clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer instructions before seating the new insert. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips before indexing. Never exceed the toolholder manufacturer recommended depth of cut or feed rate for this insert geometry.
