The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731996 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNGA style, grade 7015, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on hard materials. The insert features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process, which improves surface hardness and wear resistance at the cutting edge. It carries a 55-degree diamond shape (insert shape code D) with a neutral hand orientation and a 0 degree relief angle (clearance code N, tolerance code G). The 0.5 inch inscribed circle and 0.03 inch corner radius make it suitable for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge geometry and dimensional consistency matter. Part of the T-Max P series, this insert is engineered for productive turning on hard workpiece materials.
This insert is used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes wherever hard material turning is required. The T-Max P series is a widely recognized indexable insert platform used in both production shop and job shop environments. With four cutting edges per insert (number of cutting edges: 4), it delivers extended tool life per unit. Licensed machinists and CNC operators performing hard turning operations on hardened steels, cast irons, and similar materials are the primary installers and users. Designed for use in DNGA-style turning toolholders that accept a clamp and pin holding method with a 0.203 inch hole diameter. ISO code equivalent is DNGA150408S01030A 7015. Consult your toolholder specification to confirm insert size code 432 fitment before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque tool for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate - do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
