The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731857 is a DNMG432-QM 1105 grade solid carbide turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, the 1105 grade delivers strong wear resistance and edge stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape (DNMG style), a neutral hand orientation, and a QM chip breaker geometry engineered for positive cutting action and reliable chip control. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 0.03125 inch corner radius, it fits standard toolholders designed for this insert geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary users.
This insert is suited for turning steel as its primary workpiece material and also performs in stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium applications. It fits into the T-Max P series toolholder system and is commonly used in medium to high-volume turning operations requiring consistent surface finish and tool life. The QM chip breaker geometry is well matched to finishing and light roughing passes where chip evacuation and edge security matter. Four cutting edges per insert are available, making it an economical choice for high-throughput turning cells.
Designed for use with toolholders accepting DNMG style inserts in the T-Max P series. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), superalloy (S), and titanium. ISO designation: DNMG 15 04 08-QM 1105.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and secure using the specified clamp and pin holding method before tightening. Inspect the pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris that could affect insert positioning and cutting edge runout.
