The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731715 is a DNMG442-MM 2025 series turning insert designed for indexable tooling applications in CNC turning operations. This insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. The substrate is solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN in the manufacturer grade 2025. The MM chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip flow and consistent performance in turning operations. With four cutting edges per insert, this geometry delivers extended tool life in demanding material removal applications. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers.
This turning insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel, corresponding to ISO workpiece material code M. It seats in DNMG-compatible toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods. The T-Max P series designation indicates compatibility with Sandvik Coromant T-Max P toolholder systems designed for this insert style. Typical applications include external turning, profiling, and facing operations on stainless steel components in both production and job-shop environments.
