The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731708 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG432-PF geometry, part of the T-Max P series. It features a 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D), a neutral hand orientation, and an uncoated bright finish. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches (12.70 mm), the insert length is 0.5789 inches (14.70 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0313 inches (0.79 mm). With four cutting edges per insert, it is designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The PF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes on steel and cast iron workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This insert is primarily rated for steel (ISO material code P) as the first workpiece material and cast iron (ISO material code K) as the secondary workpiece material. It is suited for finishing and light general-purpose turning applications in both production-shop and jobsite environments. The T-Max P series is a widely used platform for external turning, profiling, and facing operations on conventional and CNC turning equipment. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for DNMG432 geometry toolholders that accept clamp-and-pin style insert retention. ISO code DNMG 15 04 08-PF 5015 can be used to verify fitment with existing toolholder inventory.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use a torque wrench appropriate for the toolholder manufacturer's clamp screw specification - refer to the toolholder documentation for the required seating torque. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp pin for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Always verify tool offset data in the control after an insert change before resuming cutting.
