The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731615 is a right-hand indexable turning toolholder in the DCLNR165D style, designed for negative-rake external turning and facing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It accepts CNMG 543 inserts and secures them using a wedge clamping method, which provides rigid, repeatable insert seating under heavy cutting loads. The shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall, with an overall length of 6 inches. The toolholder body is constructed from steel. At 1.84 pounds, it is suited for standard toolpost and turret mounting.
This toolholder is intended for use in production turning environments where facing cuts and external profiling are the primary operations. The DCLNR style accommodates the CNMG 543 insert geometry, making it appropriate for ferrous and non-ferrous material removal at moderate to high feed rates. Typical installations include gang-tool lathes, CNC turning centers, and manual engine lathes equipped with appropriate toolpost holders. It is a multi-use toolholder suitable for repeated insert changes across high-volume runs.
Designed to accept CNMG 543 indexable inserts with a 5/8 inch inscribed circle. Verify toolpost or turret bore size matches a 1 inch square shank before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret or toolpost. Torque toolpost or turret mounting screws to the machine manufacturer specification. Insert seating and wedge clamp torque should follow the insert manufacturer guidelines provided separately; do not estimate clamp torque values.
