The SANDVIK COROMANT 5731385 is a DSDNN124B-style indexable turning toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It uses a wedge clamping method to secure SNMG 12 04 08 inserts with a negative rake geometry, producing stable, rigid cutting conditions suited for steel and cast iron workpieces. The shank measures 3/4 inch wide by 3/4 inch tall with an overall length of 4.5 inches. Part of the Sandvik Coromant T-Max P series, this holder is built from steel for durability under continuous cutting loads. It is installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians in job shops and production machining environments.
This toolholder fits standard 3/4 inch square shank tool posts and turrets on engine lathes and CNC turning centers. Its neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to both front and rear toolpost positions depending on machine configuration. The T-Max P series is engineered for general-purpose external turning, facing, and profiling operations where consistent insert seating and repeatable tool offset are critical. It is a single-use holder configuration, not a multi-use tool, and is sold individually. Typical applications include finishing and semi-finishing passes on medium to large diameter bar stock.
Designed for use with SNMG 12 04 08 indexable inserts. Fits any tool post or turret station accepting a 3/4 inch square shank. Verify turret pocket size and insert grade selection against workpiece material before installation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before installing or changing the toolholder. Seat the shank fully in the turret pocket or tool post and secure all clamping bolts evenly before taking any cut. Inspect the wedge clamp and insert pocket for chips or debris each time an insert is indexed or replaced.
