The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730986 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Manufactured under the CoroTurn 107 series, this DCMT-style insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation. The insert is coated with TiAlN and AlCr2O3 via a PVD coating process, delivering high heat resistance and extended tool life when cutting demanding materials. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations where tight tolerances and consistent surface quality are required.
This insert is primarily intended for machining stainless steel and is also rated for secondary use on superalloys and titanium. It fits screw-held toolholders compatible with the DCMT insert style and is a standard choice for turning operations in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing environments. The ISO designation is DCMT 11 T3 08-UM 1115. The UM chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip evacuation in these difficult-to-machine material groups. Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per established machine safety procedures. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of debris before seating the insert to maintain proper geometry and prevent premature wear. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert seat and screw threads for damage each time inserts are indexed or replaced.
