The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730822 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT style, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a dual-layer TiAlN and AlCr2O3 coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong oxidation resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. With the UM chip breaker geometry and manufacturer grade 1115, this insert is engineered for productive metal removal where edge toughness and coating performance are critical. It belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series and is secured by screw clamping.
This insert is primarily intended for machining stainless steel and is rated as secondary-compatible with superalloys and titanium — workpiece material codes M and S respectively. It suits finish to semi-finish turning passes in precision manufacturing environments including aerospace, medical device, and process-industry component work. The DCMT insert style with a C clearance angle and M tolerance class makes it well-suited for copy turning and profiling applications where a screw-on holder with top clamping access is used. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamping turning holders that accept DCMT-style inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle. ISO designation DCMT 07 02 08-UM 1115 can be used to cross-reference holder compatibility. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO material code M); secondary workpiece materials are superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S).
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw to avoid micro-movement during cutting. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for chips or damage prior to each insert change to maintain repeatable tool nose position.
