Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730742 is a solid carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation DCMT 11 T3 08-KM 3005 and features a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN PVD/CVD coating applied over a carbide substrate for wear resistance and thermal stability. The 55-degree diamond insert shape provides two cutting edges per insert. The KM chip breaker geometry and grade 3005 substrate target cast iron workpiece materials. Insert holding is via screw clamp. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.

The 5730742 is suited for turning cast iron components in light to moderate cutting conditions. Its 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 0.4263-inch cutting edge length, and 1/32-inch corner radius make it appropriate for medium-depth passes where controlled chip formation is required. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholders that accept the DCMT insert style with a screw-lock seat. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on gray iron, nodular iron, and similar cast iron grades.

Key Features

  • ISO grade 3005 carbide substrate with TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating for extended tool life on cast iron
  • 55-degree diamond (D) insert shape with DCMT style and clearance code C for positive-rake toolholder compatibility
  • KM chip breaker geometry engineered for reliable chip control in cast iron turning
  • Two usable cutting edges per insert for cost efficiency
  • 1/32-inch (0.0313-inch) corner radius suitable for medium-finish turning passes
  • Screw-lock insert holding method provides secure seating under interrupted and continuous cuts

Compatibility

Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-lock turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with CoroTurn 107 series toolholders as specified by Sandvik Coromant for DCMT 11 T3 08 inserts. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and chip breaker clearance before installation.

Installation Notes

Insert seating and replacement is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine powered off and all axes at a safe position. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to torque the clamp screw — do not over-tighten or use impact tools. Inspect the insert pocket seat for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
