The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730731 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a DCMT21.50MF geometry designation: a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 0.20 mm corner radius. It is coated with TiAlN2 via a PVD process, which supports higher cutting speeds and extended tool life when machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The MF chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and light cutting passes where controlled chip formation and surface finish are priorities.
This insert is intended for precision turning applications in production and job-shop environments. It is primarily recommended for steel workpieces and is also rated for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium under ISO material codes P, M, and S. With a maximum depth of cut of 7.55 mm and a 6.35 mm inscribed circle, it fits toolholders designed around the DCMT 07 02 02 insert pocket specification. Machinists and CNC operators performing finish-turning passes on ferrous and high-temperature alloys are the primary users of this insert grade and geometry combination.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the DCMT 07 02 02 insert pocket per ISO standards, consistent with the CoroTurn 107 toolholder series. Compatible with steel, stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium workpiece materials as indicated by ISO material codes P, M, and S.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque-limiting screwdriver for the insert clamping screw to avoid seat damage; consult the toolholder manufacturer documentation for torque guidance. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when changing inserts on live tooling systems.
