The SANDVIK COROMANT 5730422 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. Manufactured to DCGT insert style with a 55-degree diamond shape, this insert features a bright uncoated finish and a 0.20 mm (0.0079 inch) corner radius, making it well-suited for light finishing cuts and fine-tolerance turning on non-ferrous materials and soft steels. The H13A carbide grade offers a fine-grained substrate that holds a sharp edge under demanding cutting conditions. The screw-holding method ensures secure seating in compatible toolholders, and the ISO designation DCGT 07 02 02-UM H13A provides a standard reference for toolholder selection and replacement sourcing. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for finishing and semi-finishing turning operations where surface quality and dimensional accuracy are the priority. The DCGT geometry with UM chip breaker designation supports efficient chip control in light-to-medium cut depths. Typical applications include turning aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous workpieces, as well as soft steel where a sharp, uncoated carbide edge outperforms coated grades. A 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch insert thickness classify this as a smaller insert suited for light toolholders and reduced overhang setups where rigidity at the cutting edge is essential.
Designed for use in DCGT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle insert with a hole diameter of 0.1102 inches (2.80 mm). Confirm toolholder ISO designation accepts DCGT 07 02 02 inserts before installation.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating the insert. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamp force. Verify insert seating and runout before resuming cutting operations.
