The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724873 is a CCGT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the CoroTurn 107 series, this insert carries a dual-layer TiAlN and AlCr2O3 coating applied via PVD process, delivering thermal resistance and edge stability when cutting difficult materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. It holds a Neutral hand orientation and is secured via screw clamping. With two cutting edges per insert, it offers extended tool life per unit, making it a cost-effective choice for production turning operations.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning stainless steel (ISO material code M), with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). It is well-suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are priorities. The UM chip breaker geometry is optimized for these materials, providing effective chip control at moderate to light depths of cut. The ISO designation is CCGT 09 T3 08-UM 1115. Typical users include CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in precision machining shops working on aerospace, medical, and industrial components.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept CCGT-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and screw-clamp holding method. Intended for primary use on stainless steel workpieces, with secondary application on superalloys and titanium.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tool setup technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw, and do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under uneven clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert to maintain positional accuracy.
