The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724812 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CNMG style, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the ISO designation CNMG160608QMH13A, this insert belongs to the T-Max P series and features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation. The H13A uncoated carbide grade performs at its best on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The QM chip breaker geometry controls chip flow across a wide range of depths and feed rates. With 4 usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers efficient tool-life economics in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for medium to heavy roughing passes on steel and stainless steel components in both job-shop and production-floor settings. The CNMG form factor seats in standard CNMG-compatible toolholders used across turning centers from most major machine builders. Its 0.6032-inch maximum depth of cut makes it appropriate for material-removal passes where rigidity and chip control are priorities. Machinists and CNC operators working with P- and M-category workpiece materials will find the QM breaker geometry well matched to interrupted and continuous cuts at moderate to high feed rates.
Designed for use in standard CNMG-style insert toolholders. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO M). Compatible with clamp and pin insert-holding methods as indicated by the CNMG insert style and geometry.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the toolholder secured in the turret. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-recommended clamping hardware for CNMG-style toolholders to ensure proper insert seating without over-stressing the pocket. Inspect the pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before indexing or replacing the insert. Always follow the machine builder and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for insert handling, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to chipping if dropped or impacted.
