The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724720 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CNMG434-QM H13A designation, part of the T-Max P series. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape (shape code C) with a neutral hand orientation and a clearance code N. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches (12.70 mm), the corner radius is 1/16 inch (1.60 mm), and the insert length is 0.5079 inches (12.90 mm). With four cutting edges and a QM chip breaker geometry, this insert is suited for general turning operations on steel and stainless steel. It is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is designed for external and internal turning applications where consistent chip control is required on steel (ISO material code P) and stainless steel (ISO material code M). The QM chip breaker geometry supports medium-range depths of cut up to 0.4449 inches (11.30 mm), making it appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes on components machined in manufacturing, fabrication, and maintenance operations. The T-Max P series is a widely used platform in production turning across a broad range of industries.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle insert with a clamp and pin holding method. Compatible toolholders must accommodate a 0.2032-inch (5.16 mm) hole diameter and a 3/16-inch (0.1875-inch) insert thickness. Refer to toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm fitment before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC lathe operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping instructions — do not over-tighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the insert body.
