The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724655 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on steel and other difficult-to-machine materials. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert carries a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, a corner radius of 3/64 inch (0.0469 inch decimal), and an insert thickness of 3/16 inch. The QM chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium turning applications where chip control and edge stability are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert on compatible toolholders in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for medium turning of steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary application to stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The T-Max P series is a well-established platform for external and internal turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in both residential-scale job shops and large-volume production facilities. The QM chip breaker geometry handles interrupted and continuous cuts in medium depths of cut and feed ranges. Four cutting edges per insert are available, maximizing value per insert in high-production runs. ISO designation for this insert is CNMG 12 04 12-QM 1105.
Designed for use in standard CNMG toolholders with clamp and pin holding systems. ISO code CNMG 12 04 12-QM 1105 applies. Consult toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm seating and clamping requirements before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten the clamp screw, as this can chip the insert or damage the seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
