The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724501 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the ISO designation CCMT 09 T3 08-WF 1115 and features a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 PVD coating applied over a carbide substrate. It is an 80-degree diamond-shape (C) insert with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The WF chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing cuts. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. This insert is typically installed and managed by CNC machinists and tooling technicians in production machining environments.
The 5724501 is suited for light finishing and semi-finishing passes on austenitic and duplex stainless steels, as well as heat-resistant superalloys and titanium alloys. These are materials that demand sharp cutting edges, reliable chip control, and a coating that resists built-up edge and elevated cutting temperatures. The CoroTurn 107 series uses a screw-clamp holding method, making it compatible with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 toolholders designed for CCMT inserts. With two cutting edges per insert, it delivers consistent performance across both edges before replacement.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series toolholders configured for CCMT-style inserts with a screw-clamp holding method. ISO designation CCMT 09 T3 08-WF 1115 governs interchangeability with other CCMT 09 T3 08 toolholder pockets from compatible manufacturers.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine spindle stopped and all axis motion locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw; follow the toolholder manufacturer specifications for clamp torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify insert orientation and hand (neutral) against the toolholder configuration before engaging the workpiece.
