The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724479 is an indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal machining applications. Built on the CoroDrill 880 platform, this drill accepts two indexable inserts in the A880..LXxx-04 drill style and features a 5/8 inch (0.6455 inch decimal) maximum drill diameter with a 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio, allowing a maximum drill depth of 2-5/8 inches. The straight cylindrical shank measures 3/4 inch in diameter, making it compatible with standard toolholders. The tool body is constructed from steel and includes through-coolant capability to extend insert life and improve chip evacuation. This drill is installed and operated by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production shop environments.
This indexable insert drill is suited for use in vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, and CNC turning centers with live tooling where consistent, repeatable hole geometry is required. It is commonly applied in production drilling of steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. The CoroDrill 880 series is engineered for shops running medium-to-high volume parts where insert indexability reduces downtime compared to solid carbide alternatives. The 4xD ratio accommodates a range of common through-hole and blind-hole depths encountered in general metalworking and component manufacturing.
Compatible with drill insert style A880..LXxx-04 (insert size 0.0945 inch / 2.40 mm). Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 3/4 inch shank diameter. Specific compatible insert grades and geometries should be confirmed with SANDVIK COROMANT tooling references for the target workpiece material.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Follow the insert manufacturer torque specifications printed on the insert screw and consult the CoroDrill 880 application guide for recommended cutting parameters appropriate to the workpiece material.
