The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724459 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill engineered for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. It accepts two indexable inserts sized at 0.1024 inches (2.60 mm) and is designed around the CoroDrill 880 series platform, compatible with drill style A880..LXxx-04. The body is constructed from steel and delivers a maximum drill diameter of 0.7272 inches (17.45 mm) with a maximum drill depth of 2.8716 inches (72.94 mm), placing it in the 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio class. Internal coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and tool life in demanding drilling cycles.
This drill body is suited for CNC machining center applications in job shop, production, and aerospace or general metalworking environments. The 1-inch straight cylindrical shank interfaces directly with standard toolholders and collet chucks on vertical and horizontal machining centers. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. The 4xD ratio makes it appropriate for through-holes and blind holes in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where insert-based drilling is preferred over solid carbide for cost-per-hole efficiency.
Designed for use with drill style A880..LXxx-04 indexable inserts sized at 2.60 mm (0.1024 inches). Fits standard 1-inch straight cylindrical toolholders on CNC machining centers. Verify insert grade and geometry selection against workpiece material prior to ordering inserts separately.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body. Confirm runout at the shank using a dial indicator before cutting — excessive runout will reduce insert life and hole quality. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines when clamping the shank, and verify coolant-through passages are clear before initiating a cutting cycle.
