The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724419 is a CNMG431-MF 1105 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The 80-degree diamond shape (CNMG insert style) with a neutral hand orientation provides versatility across a range of turning applications. The MF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing passes, producing controlled chip formation at lower depths of cut and feed rates. Four available cutting edges per insert reduce tooling cost per edge in production environments.
This insert is suited for finishing and light roughing operations in both residential shop and industrial production settings. Primary workpiece material is steel, with secondary applications in stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium. It fits standard CNMG-style toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods, making it a direct fit for a wide range of indexable turning tool systems used in general machining, aerospace component work, and precision part production. Machinists and CNC operators working to tight tolerances on steel components will find the MF geometry particularly effective at maintaining surface finish.
Designed for use in CNMG-style indexable turning toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding. ISO designation CNMG 12 04 04-MF 1105. Insert size code 431. Part of the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket before tightening the clamp to avoid chatter or premature edge failure. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
