The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724401 is a CNMG432-MM 2035 series turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. This insert features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN and TiN coating over a solid carbide substrate, providing wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C) delivers a strong cutting geometry with a 0.0313 inch corner radius. The MM chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation. Machinists and tooling technicians install this insert on compatible tool holders for external and internal turning operations.
This insert is primarily rated for stainless steel workpieces (ISO material code M), making it well suited for machining austenitic and duplex stainless grades commonly encountered in aerospace, oil and gas, and food processing component work. The neutral hand orientation allows use in straight turning passes. The T-Max P series is a platform for productive turning of a broad range of work materials. The four available cutting edges on this double-sided insert provide extended tool life per insert, reducing cost per edge on production runs.
This insert conforms to ISO code CNMG 12 04 08-MM 2035 and fits tool holders designed for CNMG 432 inserts with clamp and pin holding. Insert size code is 432. Verify tool holder pocket specifications against the 0.5000 inch inscribed circle, 0.1875 inch insert thickness, and 0.2030 inch hole diameter before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware for the tool holder to ensure proper insert seating - do not over-tighten by feel alone. Inspect the pocket and locating pin for damage or debris before installing a new cutting edge.
