The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724159 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on stainless steel and other ISO M-class workpiece materials. Carrying the ANSI code CCMT21.52 and ISO code CCMT 06 02 08-MR 2035, this insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating that delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness for demanding cuts. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry with a 7-degree relief angle and a neutral hand orientation. With 2 cutting edges and a screw-holding method, it is suited for roughing and medium machining operations. CNC machinists and turning center operators are the primary users.
This insert is engineered for stainless steel applications where controlled chip evacuation and edge stability are critical. The MR chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes, making this insert a practical choice for turning centers handling 300-series and similar stainless alloys in both job shop and production environments. The positive side clearance and 80-degree included angle allow for profiling passes as well as straight turning. A 0.03125-inch (1/32-inch) corner radius balances surface finish requirements against insert strength at moderate feed rates.
Designed for CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting CCMT 06 02 08 inserts with screw-style clamping. Verify toolholder seat geometry and screw size before installation. No additional specific compatible model numbers were provided in the product data.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert seat and screw threads for chips or debris prior to seating to prevent insert rocking. Replace the insert when flank wear or chipping is observed rather than running to failure, which can damage the toolholder pocket.
