The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724144 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations. It features a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 PVD coating that provides heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. With a 7-degree relief angle and UM chip breaker geometry, it is engineered to control chip formation effectively during finish and semi-finish passes. A licensed machinist or CNC turning specialist installs this insert in compatible CCMT toolholders using a screw-clamp holding method.
This insert is optimized for turning stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, with superalloy and titanium as secondary workpiece materials. It is suited for applications where close tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. The CoroTurn 107 series is widely used in CNC lathes and turning centers in both job shop and production environments. The M tolerance and C clearance codes conform to ISO standard CCMT 09 T3 04-UM 1115, making fitment and replacement straightforward when working from engineering drawings or tooling sheets.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders compatible with the CoroTurn 107 series. Verify toolholder seat size against the 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 5/32-inch insert thickness before installation. ISO code CCMT 09 T3 04-UM 1115 can be used for direct toolholder cross-reference.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer, and do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder seat for debris or wear before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and accurate tool-tip position.
