The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724089 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation CCMT 09 T3 02-MF 1115 and features a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCr2O3 for extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The 80-degree diamond insert shape provides a strong cutting edge with good approach angle versatility. With a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1563-inch insert thickness, and a 0.0079-inch (0.20 mm) corner radius, this insert is suited for finish to semi-finish turning passes where tight tolerances and surface finish matter.
This insert is optimized for primary use on stainless steel workpieces, with secondary application on superalloys and titanium - material groups where edge toughness and heat resistance are critical. The MF chip breaker geometry is engineered for medium to light chip loads, making it well suited to finish turning operations where chip control and surface integrity are priorities. It is screw-held via a center hole measuring 0.1732 inches in diameter, compatible with CoroTurn 107 toolholders. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC setup technicians in production and job-shop environments. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts; each package contains 1 insert.
Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders accepting CCMT-style inserts with a 0.375-inch inscribed circle and a 0.1732-inch center hole diameter. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel (ISO material group M); secondary compatibility includes superalloys and titanium (ISO material group S).
Insert seating and screw torquing should follow the toolholder manufacturer specifications for CoroTurn 107 holders. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping edges prior to use.
