The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724064 is a CNMG431-WF 1125 series turning insert designed for use in metal cutting lathes and turning centers. This insert features a solid carbide substrate with a dual-layer TiAlN and AlCr2O3 coating applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted turning operations. The 80-degree diamond (C) shape and neutral hand orientation make it a versatile choice for external turning passes on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The WF chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow at light to medium depths of cut. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning applications on steel (ISO material group P) as the primary workpiece material, with stainless steel (ISO material group M) as the secondary application. It is part of the T-Max P series, which is designed for productive external and internal turning on conventional and CNC lathes. The WF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and semi-finishing cuts where tight chip control and surface finish quality are critical. It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in CNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding. Primary workpiece material compatibility is steel (ISO code P) and secondary compatibility is stainless steel (ISO code M), per the 1125 grade specification. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat tolerance code M before installation.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC turning technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Index or replace the insert when flank wear, chipping, or surface finish degradation is observed.
