The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724042 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. Carrying the ANSI insert code CCMT21.51 and ISO code CCMT 06 02 04-UF 235, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive side clearance and a 7-degree relief angle. The UF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, delivering consistent chip control at tighter tolerances. A CVD-applied TiCN and TiN dual coating provides moderate wear resistance balanced with toughness, making it well suited for both general steel turning and stainless steel applications. It is held in the toolholder by a screw clamp system and offers two usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is intended for use in CNC turning centers and manual lathes where fine surface finish is the primary objective. The UF chip breaker targets light-to-moderate depth-of-cut finishing passes on ISO P and M material groups, specifically carbon and alloy steels and austenitic stainless steels. It fits toolholders designed for the Sandvik Coromant CoroTurn 107 insert system. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators working in job shops, production facilities, or maintenance machining environments are the typical end users. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts; each package contains 1 insert.
Designed for use in toolholders compatible with the Sandvik Coromant CoroTurn 107 insert system, accepting CCMT-style inserts with a screw-clamp holding method. Suitable for primary workpiece materials in ISO P (steel) and ISO M (stainless steel) categories.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or qualified toolroom technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct Torx or hex key driver specified for the CoroTurn 107 screw-clamp system to seat and torque the insert screw; do not use improvised tools that can damage the insert pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a fresh insert.
