The SANDVIK COROMANT 5724027 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning and profiling operations on CNC lathes. The insert carries a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting speeds. It features an MM chip breaker geometry and a neutral hand orientation. The 80-degree diamond shape (C) with a 7-degree relief angle makes it well suited for turning and light-to-medium profiling passes. Two cutting edges are available per insert, helping extend tool life between changeovers.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel (ISO material code M) and is rated for secondary use on superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). The CoroTurn 107 series is a common choice in production turning environments where consistent chip control and surface finish on difficult materials are priorities. The MM chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium cutting conditions on these work materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, medical device, and industrial manufacturing will encounter this insert in standard turning applications on both horizontal and vertical turning centers.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept CCMT 06 02 04 inserts with screw-type clamping. ISO code CCMT 06 02 04-MM 1115 can be referenced when cross-referencing toolholder manufacturer catalogs for correct insert seating.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and all motion axes at rest. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of debris before seating to maintain accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver for the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear at each insert change.
