The SANDVIK COROMANT 5723979 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill engineered for high-efficiency hole-making in metal cutting applications. Built on the CoroDrill 880 platform, this drill body accepts two indexable inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 2.915 inches at a 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The cutting diameter measures 1-3/8 inches (1.4152 inches decimal), and the 1-1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank provides rigid, concentric seating in compatible toolholders. The steel body construction and through-coolant capability make it suited for production environments where chip evacuation and thermal management are critical to tool life and hole quality.
This drill is intended for use in machining centers, CNC lathes, and other machine tools equipped with a compatible spindle interface. It is typically applied in ferrous and non-ferrous metal cutting operations where consistent hole geometry and repeatable insert indexing are required. The right-hand cutting direction and 2xD geometry suit through-hole and blind-hole operations in a range of workpiece materials. Installation and setup are performed by machining technicians or toolroom personnel working to shop-floor tolerances.
Designed for use with A880..LXxx-02 compatible drill inserts. Specific insert compatibility should be verified against the CoroDrill 880 series insert selection guide prior to ordering.
Installation and tool-change procedures should be performed by qualified machining personnel with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out, energy-isolated state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank seating surface and toolholder bore are clean and free of chips before mounting. Torque toolholder clamping screws per the toolholder manufacturer specification, not this drill body. Replace indexable inserts at the manufacturer-recommended wear limit to maintain hole accuracy and prevent body damage.
