The SANDVIK COROMANT 5723662 is a steel-body indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. It accepts two indexable inserts in the CoroDrill 880 series drill style A880..LXxx-04, delivering a maximum drill diameter of 0.9207 inches (22.23 mm) and a maximum drill depth of 3.6575 inches (92.90 mm). The 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio makes it well-suited for through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations where consistent chip evacuation and positional accuracy are required. The straight cylindrical shank measures 1 inch in diameter, providing rigid clamping in standard toolholders. Coolant-through capability supports extended tool life and improved chip flushing at depth.
This drill body is used in CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and manual milling setups where indexable-insert drilling is preferred over solid carbide tooling. Typical applications include structural steel fabrication, general machining shops, aerospace component production, and energy-sector part manufacturing. The right-hand cutting direction and straight shank make it compatible with standard ER, hydraulic, and shrink-fit toolholding systems. Installation and insert indexing are handled by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians following the manufacturer insert-torque and seating procedures outlined in the tooling documentation.
Compatible with indexable inserts conforming to drill style A880..LXxx-04 with an insert size of 0.1102 inches (2.80 mm). Designed for use with CoroDrill 880 series insert grades as specified in SANDVIK COROMANT tooling documentation.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Before mounting or indexing inserts, confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct Torx key and follow the insert seating procedure specified in the SANDVIK COROMANT tooling guide — do not over-torque or substitute insert screws. Verify shank runout and clamping force are within the toolholder manufacturer specifications before initiating a cut.
