The SANDVIK COROMANT 5723491 is a CCMT-style turning insert from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance, thermal protection, and edge toughness. It features an 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C), a neutral hand orientation, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. With a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and an insert length of 0.4762 inches, this insert is suited for medium to light finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops or production environments are the primary users.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel (ISO material group M), making it well suited for applications in food processing, aerospace, and medical component manufacturing where stainless alloys are common workpiece materials. The MM chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlling chips during continuous turning of tough, work-hardening materials. It is held in place by a screw-type insert holding method and seats into compatible CCMT toolholders. The insert carries ISO designation CCMT 12 04 08-MM 2025 and belongs to the UNSPSC category 23242105.
Designed for use in CCMT-compatible screw-on turning toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert. ISO designation CCMT 12 04 08-MM 2025 confirms fitment with standard CCMT 12 04 toolholder pockets. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not over-tighten, as this can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
