The RUUD RHMV2421UEACJA is a 2-ton modulating air handler with an electronic expansion valve (EEV) designed for residential split-system HVAC installations. Rated at 18,000 to 24,000 BTU/h and up to 20.5 SEER, this unit delivers variable-speed airflow through a factory-installed evaporator coil constructed of aluminum fins bonded to internally grooved aluminum tubing. The modulating EEV allows precise refrigerant metering that pairs with a compatible variable-capacity outdoor unit. Cabinet insulation is 1.0 inch foil-faced for noise reduction and thermal performance. Licensed HVAC technicians install and commission this equipment.
This air handler fits residential applications requiring a compact, versatile cabinet. The 4-way convertible design supports upflow, downflow, horizontal left, and horizontal right orientations, making it suitable for closet, utility room, attic, or crawlspace installations. It handles 330 to 400 CFM per ton at 0.3 inches of external static pressure and supports enhanced airflow up to 0.7 inches of external static pressure. Field-installed auxiliary electric heater kits are available separately and include UL and cUL-listed circuit breakers that serve as the service disconnect.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation air handler for residential split-system applications requiring a 2-ton modulating unit with EEV; consult the outdoor unit documentation to confirm variable-capacity system compatibility before installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician in accordance with local mechanical codes and the manufacturer installation instructions. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power to the system before servicing the air handler or making refrigerant connections. Refrigerant line connections are 3/8 inch liquid and 3/4 inch suction; follow EPA Section 608 regulations for refrigerant handling. Auxiliary electric heater kits are field-installed and must be wired per NEC requirements and local electrical codes.
