The RUST-OLEUM 9801501 is the activator component for the 9800 System DTM Urethane Mastic, a two-component direct-to-metal coating engineered for maximum corrosion resistance in moderate to severe industrial environments. This activator is ordered separately and paired with the 9800 System base coat to form a high-solids, high-build, sag-resistant finish. The cured system delivers durable color retention and long-term rust protection on metal surfaces. Licensed industrial coating applicators and maintenance professionals handle this product in facilities where surface protection is a primary operational concern.
The 9800 System is designed for application on tanks, towers, structural steel, metal equipment, and similar industrial assets where aggressive chemical or environmental exposure is a factor. As a DTM formulation, it bonds directly to properly prepared metal without a separate primer, though best results are achieved when the HS9300 System Epoxy Primer is applied first. The system meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food facilities, making it appropriate for food-processing and agricultural facility maintenance.
This activator is the companion component to the RUST-OLEUM 9800 System DTM Urethane Mastic base coat. For optimum adhesion and corrosion resistance, the manufacturer recommends priming with the HS9300 System Epoxy Primer in red or gray prior to topcoat application.
Two-component coatings must be mixed in the correct ratio before application — follow the manufacturer mix instructions on the product label precisely and do not thin or alter the ratio. Ensure adequate ventilation and appropriate respirator protection consistent with industrial coating standards before mixing or applying. All power to equipment being coated should be isolated and surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of mill scale, rust, and loose material prior to coating. Dispose of mixed material that has exceeded its pot life — do not attempt to thin and reuse catalyzed material.
