The RUST-OLEUM 9408421 is a two-component, high-gloss polyester urethane topcoat engineered for severe-duty corrosion protection. Part of the 9400 System, this 1-gallon unit delivers ultra-high-gloss color with exceptional durability in coastal, offshore, and chemically aggressive environments. The coating resists impact, abrasion, and harsh chemicals including muriatic acid. It meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food facilities. A licensed painting contractor or industrial coatings applicator typically handles installation on high-value or regulated assets. Sold as the base color component only — the activator is ordered separately.
This coating is suited for structural steel, vehicles, storage tanks, and other metal substrates exposed to severe environmental conditions. Residential, commercial, and industrial applications all fall within scope, particularly where long-term gloss retention and corrosion resistance are primary requirements. Its two-year rust-proof performance makes it a fit for coastal infrastructure, offshore equipment, and processing facilities where surface degradation accelerates quickly.
Designed for use within the 9400 System. Recommended for use with 9400 System Primers, 9400 System Accelerator, and 9400 System Leveling Additive. This is a two-component product — the matching 9400 System Activator must be ordered separately.
Application should be performed by an experienced industrial coatings professional familiar with two-component urethane systems. Mix ratios must be followed exactly per the manufacturer technical data sheet — do not alter the base-to-activator ratio. Surface preparation is critical: substrate must be clean, dry, and properly primed with a compatible 9400 System Primer before topcoat application. Use adequate ventilation and appropriate respiratory protection when mixing and applying two-component urethane coatings.
