The RUST-OLEUM 283086 is a single-component, self-priming elastomeric acrylic coating designed for heavy-duty corrosion protection in aggressive and marine environments. Sold in a 5-gallon pail, this water-based, high-build formula delivers one-coat coverage directly over new or minimally prepared steel, metals, and concrete. With 200% elasticity, the cured film bridges small cracks, moves with the substrate, and protects exposed edges. The gloss blue gray finish resists corrosion, rust, and water intrusion, and carries a 10-year warranty under qualifying conditions. Licensed applicators and industrial maintenance crews are the primary installers.
This coating is suited for industrial and commercial maintenance applications where surface preparation is limited but long-term corrosion resistance is required. It performs comparably to zinc and epoxy systems without the need for abrasive-blast cleaning, making it practical for in-service structures, marine infrastructure, and industrial steel exposed to high-corrosivity environments. The formulation meets USDA requirements for incidental food contact and is accepted for use in federally registered Canadian food facilities. VOC levels are compliant nationwide, supporting use in regulated regions.
Designed for application over new or minimally prepared steel, metals, and concrete surfaces. For new galvanized steel or smooth metals and concrete, consult primer recommendations before application.
Application should be performed by qualified industrial painting contractors or licensed maintenance crews familiar with protective coating systems. Prior to application, clean the surface of loose rust, dirt, grease, and contaminants per the product data sheet guidelines. Abrasive blasting is not required, but surface condition will affect adhesion and film performance. Review local environmental and safety regulations for coating application in enclosed or confined spaces before starting work.
